On Wednesday Afternoon Sept 25:

Algoma Diocese holds the Synod in prayer
Creator of all, we lift up to your loving embrace this afternoon’s visit to Shingwauk and the
reflections afterwards with Archbishop Chris our National Indigenous Archbishop and
Presiding Elder of Sacred Circle. Our hearts continue to break as we remember the children
who were taken from their families to residential schools and for the mistreatment they
received in so many ways: separation from their families and from siblings at the same
school, inadequate nutrition, poor health care, extreme punishment and generally poor
living conditions. We grieve the long term effects over generations of loss of cultures,
languages, and traditions, and the legacy of unmarked graves of the many children who
died. We pray that those who visit will gain a greater understanding of this tragedy and that
survivors and their descendants will receive some healing knowing that settlers and the
church stand alongside them to support them in their grief and healing. We give thanks that
the former school is now a cross-cultural research and educational centre as part of Algoma
University. Help us to recognize that we are all related through Creator Sets Free (Jesus). In
His name we pray. Amen
