Archbishop Anne Germond is pleased to announce the appointment of Carol Nesbitt to the Diocesan Executive Committee as our Indigenous Representative effective immediately.

Carol is a proud Metis and presently serves on the North Bay Metis Nation of Ontario Council as the Secretary-Treasurer. She sits on the Regional Committee for Regional Revenue Sharing and is highly active on the Economic Development Committee in Region 5 (Historical Ottawa/Mattawa Rivers). Carol is originally from Region 4 (Historical Sault Ste. Marie) and has harvesting rights only in Region 4.

Another project she is active in is Environmental Greening being funded by the Metis Nation of Ontario.  To date the North Bay Council has planted 10 trees (oaks and maples) in and around North Bay, mostly for seniors. She has been involved in two meat giveaways this past year to the Metis Citizens of North Bay, Sturgeon Falls and area. Recently she attended the Annual General Assembly for the Metis Nation of Ontario and a Pow Wow sponsored by Nipissing First Nation. Earlier in October she attended a

gathering at The Village at Canadore College. This is a learning environment for many Health Sciences students and will soon include a 160-person Long Term Care Facility. It is also a learning Centre for indigenous students where they learn how to prepare a beast, they have killed for food including how to cook it right down to the tanning of the hide to be used in native crafts such as moccasins.

Carol lives in North Bay with her husband of 57 years, Ron. They have two sons who also

live in North Bay and are nurses at the North Bay Regional Health Centre as well as two grandsons, and three cats. They worship at Christ Church North Bay.

In her spare time, Carol knits for the homeless and for Amelia Rising, a residence for battered women.  She enjoys reading and doing word puzzles.
