Archbishop Anne Germond is pleased to announce the appointment of The Ven. Dr. Jay Koyle as Diocesan Archdeacon of the Diocese of Algoma.

In this capacity, Archdeacon Koyle serves as Executive Officer, supporting and sharing in the Archbishop’s ministry of oversight, particularly in the areas of baptismal/discipleship formation, and ministry development and training (lay and ordained); the discernment and recruitment process for ordained ministry; liturgical celebration and formation (diocesan liturgical officer); and various other representative, administrative, policy-development, pastoral, and missional capacities. He serves as consultant for parishes and territorial archdeacons during vacancies from the announcement of an Incumbent’s departure until a new appointment has been made. He continues to work with the Youth Ministry Committee, and partner with diocesan and deanery officials in enhancing and directing resources and capacities for fostering vital and healthy faith communities.

The above responsibilities require his participation in various provincial and national assignments, particularly attending meetings of Executive Officers, and representing Algoma on the Ontario Provincial Commission on Theological Education.

Jay first came to Algoma in April 2010 as Congregational Development Officer. Before his arrival in the Diocese, Jay served in parish ministry for twenty-two years, and on the Faculty of Theology at Huron University in London, Ontario for seven years. From 2016-2019, he was chair of Faith, Worship and Ministry for The Anglican Church of Canada. He has served for many years as a conference speaker, workshop leader, and consultant in the US, Canada, and Sweden, and is a member of the International Anglican Liturgical Consultation. He holds a doctoral degree in Homiletics, and the degree of Master of Arts in Liturgical Studies from the University of Notre Dame. He continues in his assignment as part-time Incumbent of St. James’ Church, Goulais River.
