Thorneloe University Appoints New Chancellor: The Rev’d Dr. Patti Brace
Thorneloe University is pleased to announce the appointment of The Rev’d Dr. Patti Brace as its new Chancellor. With her comes a wealth of experience in academia, ministry, and a deep connection to Thorneloe’s mission and values.
Patti currently serves as rector of the Parish of Mahone Bay in the Diocese of Nova Scotia & Prince Edward Island, a parish that includes the iconic St. James’ Mahone Bay, Christ Church Maitland, and Union Church Indian Point. Before moving to Nova Scotia in 2021, she served as rector of St. Mary’s Nipigon and as honorary assistant as Christ Church Lively and St. John’s Copper Cliff in Ontario.
Her journey to ministry followed an extensive academic career. Dr. Brace holds a Bachelor of Arts from Trent University (1983), a Master of Arts and Ph. D. from Queen’s University (1996), and a Master of Divinity from Trinity College (2019). From 1999 to 2019, she taught in the English Department at Laurentian University, where she was known for her dedication to students and her commitment to the intellectual life of the university.
Thorneloe University holds a special place in Patti’s heart, as it was where she began her theological education. She completed six courses for credit and audited others before transferring to the Master of Divinity program at Trinity College in Toronto. Her deep respect for Thorneloe’s Anglican witness of the Laurentian campus and its mission as an educational institution has been a consistent theme throughout her career. She believes in Thorneloe’s vital role within the Anglican Church of Canada, particularly in supporting smaller and rural dioceses such as Algoma and Nova Scotia & PEI.
“I am deeply honoured to follow in the footsteps of giants like the Most Rev’d Anne Germond and Mrs. Barbara Bolton in serving as Chancellor of Thorneloe University.” she said. “Thorneloe’s commitment to academic excellence and its Anglican heritage make it a beacon of learning and faith. I look forward to contributing to its mission in this new role.”
The Rev’d Dr. Brace’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Thorneloe University as it continues to uphold its rich tradition of fostering education, creativity, and spiritual growth. Her diverse background and passion for Thorneloe’s mission position her to lead with vision and dedication.
