Reverend Barbara Carolynn Nangle Obituary
It is with sorrow we announce the death of the Rev. Barbara Nangle earlier this week in Bracebridge Ontario. Rev. Barbara was a devoted priest who served faithfully in the Diocese of Moosonee and Algoma.
Rev. Barbara first served as a Lay Pastoral Worker at St. James Anglican Church in Sudbury working with the Rev. Marty Keatings.
Barbara completed a Bachelor of Theology degree at Thorneloe University. The call to ordained ministry lead her to the Diocese of Moosonee where she was ordained as a deacon on January 7th, 2001 and as a priest later that year on July 2nd. Rev. Barbara’s ordaining bishop was Archbishop Caleb Lawrence and her first pastoral charge was in the first nations community of Constance Lake and Hearst, and then moved to Waswanapi in the James Bay Deanery. Serving in the Diocese of Moosonee brought light and hope to many, leaving behind a legacy of love and service.
Throughout Rev. Barb’s ministry, she touched countless lives with faith, kindness, and humility. Barb had a passion for those in need and showed off her skills in making scarves, dolls and knitted items for children. She described herself as having a strong personal faith and a desire to be able to enrich by ‘ministry and sacrament the lives of others, and help them explore more deeply the faith in God which has supported me in my life.’
In her retirement Rev. Barbara returned to the Diocese of Algoma where she settled in Bracebridge and attended St. Thomas’s Church. She was appointed an Honorary Assistant, a position she held until 2018 when she was made the Honorary Assistant Emeritus.
We in the Dioceses of Algoma and Moosonee extend our heartfelt condolences to Rev. Barbara’s family – son Glenn and daughter Barbara (Leonard) and her granddaughter Katelynn, as well as her parish family, friends, and the communities she served. May we find comfort in the promise of eternal life and the knowledge that Barbara now rests in the loving arms of our Lord.
