Archbishop announces new appointments
Archbishop Anne Germond is pleased to announce the following appointments:
Diocesan Executive Committee
Canon Betty Whetham as the Archbishop’s Lay Appointee and The Reverend Canon Doctor John Gibaut as her Clerical Appointee to the Diocesan Executive Committee.
Canon Betty has been a long-time member of the Executive Committee as a Lay Steward for Muskoka Deanery. She served on the Renewal in Mission Task Force, the Muskoka Deanery Assessment Team, as chair of the Solar Energy Committee, member of the Constitution and Canons Committee, and chair of the Grants Board for the Muskoka Ministry Endowment Fund. She comes to this new role on Executive with extensive experience within the Diocese of Algoma.
Canon Doctor John will be installed as the President, Provost, and Vice-Chancellor of Thorneloe University in September. For the past 11 years, he has held senior executive leadership positions within two global church organizations, the World Council of Churches in Geneva, Switzerland and the Anglican Communion Office in London, England. Prior to assuming these international appointments, Dr. Gibaut was an administrator and professor in the Faculty of Theology at Saint Paul University, a bilingual institution federated with the University of Ottawa. From 1994 to 2003, he served as the faculty’s Director of Anglican Studies. He comes to this new role on the Executive Committee with a wealth of experience as a university administrator and ecumenical leader in Canada and abroad.
We welcome Canon Betty and Canon Dr. John to their new positions and uphold them in prayer as they take on their new ministries within the Diocese.
