33RD YOUTH SYNOD

The registration form for "Jesus in the Streets: Youth Synod 2019" is now available online.

Anyone who will be 13-24 years of age on June 30 is encouraged to register. This year's theme pick up on the Lutheran and Anglican national youth project focusing on homelessness, as well as our own diocesan youth concern with teens and mental health. Of course, there will be all the fun, friendship, and faith-filled activities that make youth synod such a highlight in Algoma.

MEET ANGIE HOCKING, THIS YEAR'S FACILITATOR AT ALGOMA'S YOUTH SYNOD!!!

Angie has been working alongside people experiencing homelessness for the past 12 years, and is currently the Director of Outreach Services at Church of the Redeemer (Anglican) in downtown Toronto. She's excited to join the conversation with Algoma's awesome youth, as the topic of seeing ourselves in the stranger is very near to her heart. She will lead the group through exercises and reflections as we delve into the chosen theme for this year of 'Jesus in the Streets'.

She travels with her family, which includes a spunky 3-year-old who loves to collect rocks and flowers and explore nature. She and her family can't wait to meet Youth Synod participants, and spend time learning and growing together!

Ministries For Children and Youth

The Diocese of Algoma has a plan for Child and Youth Ministry, and employs a staff of Deanery Child & Youth Facilitators to assist Parishes in identifying and developing their ministries for children and youth.  The Diocese also has a Youth Ministry Committee comprised of Deanery Youth Coordinators Deanery-Elected Youth Representatives to foster connections between parishes and across the Diocese.

Resources for Parishes

In addition to Algoma’s ‘people’ resources, our Facilitator staff and Youth Ministry Committee, we have collected a variety of resources to assist your parish in developing its ministries for children and youth. Some of these resources have been produced by the Youth Ministry Committee, and others have been borrowed and adapted (with permission and credit, of course) from other organizations. The borrowed resources can point you toward authors, websites, or churches that can provide more than the example given here.
