Dear friends travelling to the Sault today -
"God whose glory fills the whole creation, and whose presence we find wherever we go, preserve those who are travelling to Sault Ste Marie today. Surround them with your loving care, protect them from every danger. Keep those who remain at home under your watchful eye. Bring us all in safety to our journey's end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen"
As you begin the 'trek' to the Sault with your deanery friends know that as I have been in your prayers, so you are in mine. I have been praying for travelling mercies for everyone making the journey to be with our diocesan family at this moment in our history. While I am being consecrated Bishop, we are all on a common journey in faith - sharing the story of God's love for the whole world, and what God in Christ has done for each of us. We are already telling the story in our own ways, and I pray that in the coming years we will find new ways to tell it and new people to share it with.
Our family (Colin and I, Bishop Brian and my sister Helen ) came to the Sault on Monday and we have spent the week settling into Bishophurst, getting used to living in this big old house that has its very own story to tell, and I have been quietening my mind and stealing time for prayer and contemplation.
As I walked through the door of Bishophurst and entered the "Bishop's study" I felt the weight of following in the footsteps of all the very fine godly bishops who have lived here, prayed here, and worked here. I am using their prayer desk to say the morning and evening offices. I am honoured and humbled and I will use the unique gifts God has given me to do the work that is before me. Colin and I are looking forward to welcoming those of you who will be attending Synod to Bishophurst in May. It's a great space, a warm refuge already, and perfect for entertaining.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the Cathedral in the morning - thank you for being here with me - it means so much to know that I am amongst friends. For those watching at home know that the Holy Spirit keeps us connected and so you are also with us in our time of worship.
In Christ's love,
