Posted: Jun 30, 2011
Bishop Stephen Andrews announces the following changes in ministry:
Reconfiguration of Ministry
The Rev. Paul Walmsley has been appointed the new Incumbent of the Parish of Western Manitoulin, which includes All Saints’, Gore Bay; St. John the Evangelist, Kagawong; and St. Peter’s, Silverwater. In taking on this new responsibility, he retains his position with Holy Trinity, Little Current, but will be saying “farewell” to the folks of St. George’s, Espanola.
The new Incumbent of St. George’s, Espanola, is the Rev. Henk Willems. He will have the assistance of his wife, the Rev. Beth Topps-Willems, who has taken up a 40% appointment that will enable them to continue serving St. Peter’s, Elliot Lake; St. James, Massey; and Gowan Gilmour Memorial Chapel, Sagamok.
All three appointments begin 1 July. We congratulate Paul, Henk, and Beth and offer our prayers as they begin these new ministries with the people in their respective parishes.
St. Thomas’, Thunder Bay
The Rev. Doug McClure has been appointed as Interim Incumbent for St. Thomas’, Thunder Bay, effective 1 July 2011. Doug has been serving as Assistant Curate for St. Thomas’ since his return to the Diocese of Algoma last summer. He is a retiree from the Diocese of Athabasca but has roots here in Algoma as the past rector of the Parish of Nipigon Bay (Nipigon, Red Rock and Dorion)and as a curate at St. Thomas’, Thunder Bay. His wife, Lesley, is an accomplished singer, organist and music leader and shares in his ministry. We congratulate Doug and Lesley and offer our prayers to them and the people of St. Thomas’ as they begin this new ministry together.
