Algoma Priest Elected Bishop

Posted: Mar 7, 2016

On Saturday, 5 March, Colonel The Venerable Nigel Shaw became the first individual to be elected to the post of Bishop of the Anglican Military Ordinariate, a post previously held by the former Bishop of Ottawa, Peter Coffin. The electoral synod was conducted virtually, with voting taking place electronically.

Bishop-elect Shaw is a Priest of the Diocese of Algoma, and was ordained by Bishop Les Peterson in 1984. He served as Assistant Curate at Holy Trinity Church in Sault Ste Marie 1984-1986. He holds a BA and an MDiv from Trinity College, Toronto. Following his priesting in 1985, he became a chaplain with the primary reserve. The following year, he transferred to the regular forces, where he has served ever since.

His consecration will take place May 28 at Christ Church Cathedral in Ottawa. More information about Bishop-elect Shaw can be found on the Anglican Journal web site.
