Bishop Stephen Andrews is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Ken Hernden as Archivist for the Diocese of Algoma. He succeeds Mr Fred Neal, who has held the post since 2007. Among Mr Neal’s accomplishments was the transfer of the diocesan fonds from Laurentian University to Algoma University in 2009.

Mr Hernden holds a BA in History and a MLIS from Western University and is in his eighth year as University Librarian at Algoma University. He has held positions at North Bay Public Library, York University and Rush University (Chicago), and as a contract archivist for Huron College. He was Co-Director for the Shingwauk Residential Schools Centre. A pioneer in the development of archival databases, Ken received awards last year from the Archives Association of Ontario and the Sault Ste Marie Innovation Centre.

The Diocesan Archivist oversees the acquisition and depositing of materials for the Archives and assists the Bishop and the Diocesan Executive Committee in developing and administering polices related to the Archives.
