Turner, Ethel

Ethel Turner, age 84 years young, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Born in Stockport, Manchester, England on May 16, 1929, the daughter of Lawrence and Hannah Garred. Ethel was raised and educated in Hyde, Cheshire, England. In 1947, Ethel married James Turner and in 1952, she and James came to Canada, where James was ordained a Deacon by the Bishop of Algoma and then to the Priesthood the following year. During this time, Ethel worked as an Occupational Therapist at both Dawson Court and Grandview Lodge up until the mid 70’s and in January 1954, she gave birth to their son Geoffrey. Ethel enjoyed travelling, Hawaii being one of her favourite places to visit with her husband. 

Ethel is survived by her son Geoffrey, daughter-in-law Deborah Victor, grandchildren Katie and George, great granddaughters Kirsi and Aeries Turner as well as by relatives in England. She was predeceased by her husband The Reverend Father James Turner M.I.D.C.D., her parents and four brothers and three sisters. 

A Memorial Service to celebrate the Life of Ethel Turner will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. when family and friends will gather at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Pearl Street, with Rev. Mary Lucas presiding. Inurnment will take place in St. James Cemetery, Murillo. Arrangements in care of the Sargent & Son Funeral Directors, 21 North Court Street. In lieu of flowers memorials to St. John’s Anglican Church would be appreciated.
