Tea for Tarime

Posted: Aug 22, 2013

Archdeacon Anne Germond writes:

Dear friends across Sudbury/Manitoulin

Thank you for supporting the "Tea for Tarime" that the Church of the Ascension hosted on Saturday afternoon. Not only did those who attend enjoy a delicious spread provided by the Ascension (with all of the cakes being made by a youth member and her mother), but they also had the opportunity to take home a really great  'old bag' for only a twoonie!  Colin Germond and Philip Balson entertained us with their beautiful music, and The Rev. Roberta Wilson Garrett gave us an excellent presentation on the Diocese of Tarime and their bishop's vision for the future of this fledgling diocese.

While the tea was hosted by the Ascension, Deanery officials were also present to help serve the tea. Special thanks to the 'PKs' - Calvin, Sarah and Hugh Perry, who also came to lend a hand.

We all came away encouraged by how the church is growing in Tanzania, and how their desire to worship together is so strong that they are willing to build the walls of their churches with their own hands.  These churches will be used for more than just Sunday worship. During the week they will be community centres where folks can go to learn and support each other. The monies we raised on Saturday afternoon ($1200) will go towards putting a roof on one of those churches. Thank you for helping us Raise the Roof for Tarime.

As members from across Algoma prepare to travel to Tarime next July, let us pray for them, for Bishop Mwita and Bishop Stephen, and continue to find ways to offer our support of this mission and the Diocese of Tarime.

With gratitude,
