The Rev. H.A. 'Jerry' Cooper has died

Posted: Aug 20, 2013

Bishop Stephen,

The Rev. H. A. Jerry-Cooper (Jerry was actually a nickname, given him during his war service - something to do with a Jerry Can of gas) passed away this past Thursday August 15.

I do not have exact dates, but Jerry came from St. Mary's, Brandon in the early 1970's, to Thunder Bay, and worked as a chaplain at Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital until his retirement. He was an honorary assistant at St. Thomas Thunder Bay, especially under Roy Haddon. I have known him since those days. Jerry was very proud of his years in Brandon. Jerry was a faithful member of St. Thomas, Chilliwack, when I arrived.

I would hope that a suitable announcement could be made of his death. He has suffered increasing ill health the past couple of years, but did live to about 90. I am told at this time there will be no service for Jerry. A death announcement will be forthcoming in the local paper, and I will send it to you once I see it.

The Rev. Jennifer Burgoyne and I will both miss him. We visited often, and Jennifer has used his old stoles to create her own.

John
