Dear Henk and Members of St Peter the Apostle, Elliot Lake,
On behalf of the diocese, I want you to know that you are much in our prayers in the wake of the tragedy at the mall. We know that this event, which has attracted the attention of the world, has affected you all – from the families who have lost loved ones, to those who have been injured, to those officials who have had to make difficult decisions, to those who find themselves suddenly unemployed. We pray for God’s mercy.
But in the grief, anger and confusion that many are feeling at this time, we pray especially for you: that you would know God’s grace in ministering comfort and hope to one another and to those of the community. For, in the words of your patron saint, ‘Through Christ you have come to trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are set on God’ (1 Peter 1.21). May Jesus and the power of his resurrection be evident in your compassion and service in this difficult time.
Yours in Christ,
