A true servant

Posted: May 17, 2012

In a quiet service in the St Luke's Cathedral Chapel, The Very Reverend Lawrence Robertson celebrated the Holy Eucharist from the Book of Common Prayer on the 60th anniversary of being made a Deacon in the same Cathedral.  He recalled that within months of the ordination, the Cathedral fell victim to fire.  But the altar at which he served this morning was preserved, the Cathedral rebuilt, and twenty-three years later he would be installed as Dean.  Dean Robertson is the longest-serving Dean in the Cathedral's history (seventeen years).

In a brief tribute after the service, Bishop Andrews expressed his appreciation for all that Lawrence had given to the diocese, saying that sixty years ago the diocese was still a mission.  Through his efforts, and the efforts of many others, the diocese became self-supporting only a few years later, and much of the stability and prosperity we enjoy in the church today is due to his faith and diligence.  May God continue to bless your ministry, Lawrence!
